If Your Kitchen Could Talk….What Would It Say About You?
June 4, 2009
So it’s pretty common when working with people supporting them on improvements in their health, fitness or nutrition across the board that they “over report”. Over reporting simply is when the mind’s interpretation of ones reality is truly is not equivalent to the reality of their actions, and at least 80% of people are guilty of this when asked to assess & report their actions & behaviors around their health, fitness & healthy eating.
This can happen for any number of reasons – people over report their realities because of misunderstanding, embarrassment, maybe even lack of knowledge in the areas they are being assessed.
I often wish when we’re counseling clients on nutrition and their overall health that we could skip their assessment & simply walk into their kitchen as this would be the most accurate story of the reality of one’s health inside & outside. Truly, if your kitchen could talk there’s a TON of variance in what it could say as a reaction to what you choose to fill it with – if your frig & cupboards had a voice, what do you think they would say about you?
Now be honest with yourself. Would it be thanking or cursing you?
Start to realize that your kitchen is a place of reverence in your home. It’s a spiritual place where health is created for your body every day, …or at least it SHOULD BE.
It’s not just the meeting place for the family. It’s much, much more.
Begin to think about the energy of your kitchen…the energy your bring to it & allow in it – do you bring your stress & frantic nature in there, do you fight with your spouse, do you present yourself with anxiousness about eating, food or your relationship with your body, do you show up with frustration or discouragement when you pull out a veggie & come forth with an ‘I don’t want to eat this’ attitude?
Next time you’re in your kitchen preparing food do this - focus on staying calm, keep any negative energy out of the area while you’re preparing food, clear your mind and think about the blessing of health this food is about to provide your body & hence your life via giving you the energy & nutrients you require TO BE.
What makes this most possible truly is choosing foods that are able to GIVE your body energy & definitely there are specific foods that can do this & specific foods that cannot. Foods that provide the best energy & therefore health to your body possess their own energy from sun, water, air, & soil. Other foods that provide great energy are foods that are in their whole form & therefore not altered & jam packed with nutrients to give you more ENERGY to your life, and more LIFE to your body.
So by now you may be saying, how do I get started & what should I be shooting for?? I want to have a life-giving, health-creating, energy-amping kitchen too!
Well, to give you a visual we decided to do a quick photo shoot in our very own kitchen to show you just what this sort of thing might look like – while we did not include EVERY kitchen cupboard or area …so you don’t see all the oils, spices, seasonings, supplements, etc. …this is a quick sneak peek!
Welcome to the favorite & most important room of our home….

This is great! Thanks for sharing. I agree that your kitchen does tell a little story into your life. My kitchen since it is shared with a roommate would be more like Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. One part of it is full of great healthy living foods; wholesome veggies, fruits, grains, etc. Lots of foods indicating life and health. Then the other side (my unhealthy roommate) is jam-packed with pizza, frozen burritos, chips, candy, cookies, and oh, that healthy “Hawaiian Punch” .. I think he believes it is fruit since it says fruit punch. Not always easy living with a very unhealthy eater… but it has to be done. To become leaner, to become healthy, to be full of life.

Very true, if we also think about what energies the foods we choose bring into our kitchen there is some truth there as well – the more chaotic our foods we allow into our lives, kitchens, bodies…typically the more chaotic our own health, energy, & life!
