A YUMMY NEW YEARS GIFT | Our Homemade Apple Pie Protein Bars Recipe

January 5, 2009

Happy Healthy 2009!

Many of you have shared your desire to feel more empowered around eating — how do I go about ‘eating healthy’ when it comes to the kitchen, shopping, meals, label reading…

I often hear, “How can I make healthy eating quick & tasty vs. bland & boring?” Or the common, “But cooking healthy is so time consuming.”

I encourage you to believe that healthy whole foods eating is not only possible, but enjoyable. All it takes is learning new ways to approach food that differ from the traditional ways we’ve been taught. Food isn’t produced the same way today it was 10, 20, 50 years ago — so why should we EAT the same way? We need to change it up!

My husband & I have relied on our over 30+ yrs combined in health & fitness to create original quick & tasty whole foods nutrition recipes for ourselves & our clients because we are both extremely passionate about health, fitness & food. We believe translating healthy eating is the critical missing piece to achieving & sustaining a healthy lifestyle successfully.

Whole foods should be emphasized in our diet direction for optimal health quality & disease prevention, so I encourage you to branch out & begin to explore your wondrous whole foods options out there.

A healthy lifestyle isn’t about misery, deprivation, or bland eating… it’s about abundance, power, energy, enjoyment & endless possibility - people are just missing the right tools & shortcuts!

So attached is a ’shortcut’ from us to you as a gift of nourishment & goodness for your body, soul & mind. The best nutrition nature has to offer to fuel your new healthy 2009 bod! ;)

Recipe Info: Homemade Apple Pie Protein Bars (see attached recipe)

This recipe is a “small meal” category recipe which means it’s 200 kcal - the perfect snack! It also is “whole meal nutrition” – this means it contains all 3 macronutrients (protein, carbs & fat) and ONLY from healthy whole foods sources, nothing processed, packaged or synthetic. Here we’re not just talking quantity, we’re talking QUALITY. Every last bit of it has nutrient value for your body, and how often can we say that when we nourish ourselves?? ;) Not often enough!

Take 20-30 mins to make them on Sunday & wrap ‘em up for the week & you have all your snacks pre-made – perfect solution for “on the go” eating! This is how we sidebar excuses, avoid mishaps & be prepared at all times to eat for our best health!

Hello Heather. Thanks for the recipe!
I was recently a part of an online discussion about grocery shopping. Someone I know from the “former smokers” website was saying how much they HATE grocery shopping and I just couldn’t understand this. I LOVE grocery shopping!
I go into the store and most of them start out in the produce section. OMG, the bounty before me… All of the beautiful colors in every shape and size!
Every time I go in I try and come home with something from the produce department that I’ve never tried before. It’s wonderful. There are usually recipes someplace in this departement that suggest ways to enjoy each of the items available.
Then I bring them home and the kids get to look at, touch and taste something new as well! This encourages them to “Eat with your mind open” (Central Market’s Tagline) and I just love it.
So I just wanted to thank you and share my own love of whole foods and the experience of obtaining them!
    Happy Healthy New Year!

How wonderful that you revel in the bounty of your produce department ;) AND share that bounty with your family. The key is just in finding different ways to cook it up to enjoy it! I used to work for the largest national grocery chain doing their national produce marketing events & promotions for all their produce suppliers. Was quite an interesting job seeing all the produce supply chain & distribution for our grocery stores both nationally & internationally. A lot goes into it before it get into our hands! People have lost that connectedness with food, we need to get ‘back to our roots’! ;) Thanks for reading!
